ICS gets a new name and a new location
Shafi Goldwasser has asked me to announce that the next Innovations in Theoretical Computer Science (ITCS) conference—previously called Innovations in Computer Science (ICS)—will be held January 8-10, 2012 in Cambridge, MA, the first I(T)CS to be held outside of China. The submission deadline is August 7. The call for papers is here, and the conference website is here.

Scott,
Can undergrads attend — just for fun? π

Boy, this is confusing. Last year it was ICS held at ITCS.
Now the conference is called ITCS.
So if in the future it is ever held in Beijing again, it will be the ITCS conference held at ITCS. So then they’ll have to change the name again … ?

The link does not seem to be working for some reason.

Mike: Of course, anyone can attend! (The only issue is travel support—I understand there is some student travel support, but you’d have to contact the organizers for more info.)
Did anyone else besides CC have a problem with the link? It’s working fine for me right now…

The link works on Safari. I think my firefox was preventing something, presumably because of ad blocking.

Why the name change? Was there some confusion?

Curious George: Apparently, it’s because they became affiliated with ACM, and ACM already had another conference with the acronym ICS.

Curious George: also, the name ICS was also a bit arrogant and misleading – we should acknowledge that some innovations in computer science occur outside of TCS. π
