Dear Colleagues,<\/p>\n
We are writing to draw your attention to the upcoming\u00a0ITCS<\/b>\u00a0(Innovations in Theoretical Computer Science\u00a0) conference,\u00a0which will be held in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA from\u00a0January 11-14<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b>, 2018, with a welcome reception on\u00a0January 11, 2018<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0at the Marriott Hotel in Kendall Square.\u00a0\u00a0Note that the conference will run for\u00a04 full days<\/b>\u00a0(Thursday<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>–Sunday<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>).<\/p>\n
The\u00a0deadline for early registration<\/b>\u00a0and hotel block are both\u00a0December 21<\/b>, 2017.<\/p>\n
ITCS has a long tradition of holding a “graduating bits<\/b>” event where graduating students and postdocs give a short presentation about their work. If you fit the bill, consider signing up — this is a great chance to showcase your work and it’s just plain fun.\u00a0Graduating bits will take place on\u00a0Friday, January 12 at 6:30pm.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
In addition, we will have an\u00a0evening\u00a0poster session<\/b>\u00a0at the Marriott hotel on\u00a0Thursday, January 11 from 6:30-8pm<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0(co-located with the conference reception).<\/p>\n

\nIn more unrelated news, congratulations to the people of Alabama for not only rejecting the medieval molester (barely), but—as it happens—electing a far better Senator than the President that the US as a whole was able to produce.<\/p>\n
\nOne last update: my cousin Alix Genter\u2014who was previously\u00a0in the national news<\/a>\u00a0(and my blog<\/a>) for a bridal store\u2019s refusal to sell her a dress for a same-sex wedding\u2014recently started a freelance academic editing business. Alix writes to me:<\/p>\n
I work with scholars (including non-native English speakers) who have difficulty writing on diverse projects, from graduate work to professional publications. Although I have more expertise in historical writing and topics within gender\/sexuality studies, I am interested in scholarship throughout the humanities and qualitative social sciences.<\/p>\n
