{"id":1267,"date":"2013-03-13T09:24:13","date_gmt":"2013-03-13T14:24:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scottaaronson.blog\/?p=1267"},"modified":"2017-01-13T06:58:23","modified_gmt":"2017-01-13T11:58:23","slug":"silvio-and-shafi-win-turing-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scottaaronson.blog\/?p=1267","title":{"rendered":"Silvio and Shafi win Turing Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today I break long radio silence to deliver some phenomenal news.\u00a0 Two of the people who I eat lunch with every week&#8212;my MIT CSAIL colleagues <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Silvio_Micali\">Silvio Micali<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shafi_Goldwasser\">Shafi Goldwasser<\/a>&#8212;have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acm.org\/news\/featured\/awards\/turing-award-2012\">won a well-deserved Turing Award<\/a>, for their fundamental contributions to cryptography from the 1980s till today.\u00a0 (I see that Lance <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.computationalcomplexity.org\/2013\/03\/turing-award-to-shafi-and-silvio.html\">just now beat me<\/a> to a blog post about this.\u00a0 Dammit, Lance!)<\/p>\n<p>I won&#8217;t have to tell many readers of this blog that the names Goldwasser and Micali&#8212;or more often, the initials &#8220;G&#8221;
